Thin and brittle nails – how to save them?

The problem of thin and brittle nails is very common. It affects people of all ages and has various causes, not always dependent on us. However, changing some habits can help a lot in preventing your nails from breaking. In this article, you will learn the causes of nail problems and how to remedy them.

What are the causes of nail breakage?

Inadequate Care

Inadequate care is the most common cause of nail problems. Too much filing and regular use of acetone cause the plate to break. Proper removal of hybrid manicure is also very important.

Contact with certain detergents

Many women forget the importance of using gloves when cleaning. This is an important issue because contact with detergents damages both the nails and the skin of the hands.

This is especially dangerous if you use strong or caustic cleaning products.

Diseases

The condition of our nails is affected by the health of the body. Thyroid diseases or ringworm weaken the plate. So it is worth seeing a doctor regularly and check whether there is nothing wrong in our body.

Improper diet

We all know how much influence on our health and appearance has a diet. If we do not supply our body with ingredients such as zinc, calcium and vitamins, it will reflect on our nails. So every day we should take care of what we eat.

How to save brittle nails with home remedies?

Change of diet

At the very beginning of the fight with nail problems, it is worth changing your diet. Make sure that it contains products rich in zinc, vitamins A, B and E, and protein. Try to avoid sweets and alcohol, as well as highly processed products. It is also worth supplementing vitamins, because their deficiencies are common and dangerous for nails.

Linseed bath

This is a good way to rescue damaged nails. Just pour boiling water over 2 tablespoons of flaxseed. Immerse your fingertips in such a prepared mixture for about 20 minutes, and rinse everything with water. Remember that the water should not be too hot.

The use of garlic

Garlic is known for its health promoting properties. Combine a crushed garlic clove with a teaspoon of olive oil and apply the mixture on your nails. After 5 minutes, rinse everything thoroughly and wash your fingers with soapy water. Keep in mind that the scent of garlic can linger for hours.

A mixture of apple cider vinegar and water

This is another bath that can help your nails. Combine water and apple cider vinegar in a ratio of 1:1. Keep your nails in such a bath for a few minutes and then wash your fingers. However, be careful with this treatment if you have wounds on your hands and around your nails, then it can be painful.
