Is a good cosmetic an expensive cosmetic? The answer may surprise you…

Have you ever heard that good skincare is only good if you pay a lot for the cosmetic? Well… maybe that was once true. Once, when the market was much poorer in the selection of cosmetics and technologies offered! Today, good skincare doesn’t have to be expensive if you know what to look for in a drugstore.

A good cosmetic is one that will work for your skin needs and meet your expectations. Not all the products you use have to cost a fortune. There are some on the market that you can easily save money on, and your skin probably won’t feel much of a change. Washing and makeup removal products fall into this category.

Cleansers and makeup removers

Gels, foams, cleansing emulsions and any makeup remover or micellar lotion stay on our skin only for a short period of time. Then we wash them off with water

Their task is actually to prepare the skin for further skin care steps. So you don’t have to spend a lot of money on them (unless you want to). Cleansing and make-up removal are two care steps that are not responsible for spectacular effects. The active ingredients they contain are in too short a contact with the skin to give such results

This does not mean that these products do not work and do nothing for the skin, rather it means that a facial cleansing gel for about 20 PLN will do practically the same as its counterpart for 200! So this is the first step to optimize your skincare spending.

Washable masks

Of course, you can spend more on these if you feel like it, but these cheaper replacements will work great. If you’re looking for something that will cleanse your face, reduce blackheads and mattify your skin – reach for the simplest, pure clay. You can get it at any drugstore. Most often they are sold in jars or sachets as a powder to be mixed by yourself. They last for many uses and their prices usually range between 20-30 PLN. This is a much more economical and environmentally friendly option than buying disposable, more expensive masks in aluminum packaging. Try it and you won’t regret it! ☺

Toners

This is not a mandatory step in skincare. You may be reading this for the first time, but it is – it’s scientifically proven! However, this is a pretty broad topic that I cover in detail in my course, The Road to Conscious Skincare, which launches August 18. If you want to learn the secrets of skin care and take even better care of your skin, I refer you to it!

And now let’s focus on the toners themselves. If you want to buy a good and inexpensive toning product, look for one that does something more for your skin – like take care of moisturizing! You can find out by reading the ingredients or the product label

Look for substances like hyaluronic acid (INCI: Hyaluronic Acid), lactic acid (INCI: Lactic Acid), sodium hyaluronate (INCI: Sodium Hyaluronate), glycerin (INCI: Glycerin), sodium PCA (INCI:Sodium PCA), sorbitol (INCI:Sorbitol)

On the other hand, avoid denatured alcohol (INCI: Alcohol denat.) high in the ingredients (i.e. at the beginning of the INCI list on the back of the cosmetic). It’s not needed in most toners and can cause dryness and irritation, especially in very dry and sensitive skins.

These cosmetics are worth spending more on

Cosmetics that are worth spending a little more money on (and that you’ll save money on by optimizing the cost of your skincare steps above) are cheeses and creams with SPF. It’s not that you won’t get cheap and good gems from these product categories, but they can be harder to find. I already explain why!

Sera are active cosmetics that work on specific skin problems. In order for them to work at their best, the substances they contain must be stable and the whole formula should not irritate the skin. It is hard to find a good and very cheap serum with some ingredients that require special care in terms of their stability. For example, vitamin C or retinol

It may also be that these cheap serums will have a shorter expiration date, because after some time, the stability of the ingredients in them “rolls off”. Cheap formulas do not allow the use of more expensive raw materials that would extend the shelf life of the product. Therefore, here we have something for something. When choosing a cheaper product, you have to take into account the fact that it may not be as effective as those more expensive, better thought out and equipped with better auxiliary substances

Cheap cheeses that will work regardless of stabilization are, for example, hyaluronic acid cheeses, typical moisturizing cheeses that do not guarantee super active action, but simply take care of the basic needs of the skin.

Creams with sunscreen

Another category where more expensive can mean better (although it doesn’t have to) is sunscreen creams. Here we also pay for stability of protection, used filters (which are expensive raw materials), additional auxiliary substances, for the whole formula, which in many more expensive, specialized cosmetics is more pleasant than in those from the drugstore shelf

Anyway, better any protection than none at all. If you do not have funds for the more expensive SPFs or simply do not want to spend a lot of money on such products (we count here about 70-100 zł for a single cream), the drugstore ones will also protect your skin! And this protection is worth taking care of. It’s an investment in your skin every day and a way to prolong our youth, because, as scientifically proven, about 80% of skin aging is caused by UV radiation from the sun.

To sum up..

What we save on some cosmetics we can spend on the more expensive ones, which are actually able to work so on our skin. A few simple things, but useful, right?

I would like to shyly remind you that you can find a lot of skin care knowledge in the course I’ve prepared The Road to Conscious Skincareits premiere is on August 18th

During this time she got a lot of messages asking for help with various skin problems. The scale of this only solidified her belief that there is still a lack of knowledge on the subject. As a result, she created a course The way to conscious skin carewhich launches already at on August 18
